Wild Columbine Aquilegia canadensis

Picture
An herbaceous perennial native to woodland and rocky slopes in
eastern North America. Graceful, drooping red and yellow flowers on tall stems brighten shady forests and woods-edges.  Foliage is delicate, with compound leaves.

Height: 2-3 feet

Bloom Color: Red and yellow
Bloom Time:  May - June
Native Status: Native to eastern North America
Habitat:  Grows naturally in rocky,  wooded or open slopes, shaded or open  woods, often  around cliffs, rock outcrops, and forest edge. Prefers part shade but does well in full sun.  Spreads by self-seeding.

Cultivation Information:  Columbine grows well in ordinary garden soil, but does not like clay.  Prefers well drained, moist soil, but is tolerant of full sun and dry.
