- Ken Tamminga teaches community-based design, planting methods, and ecological design. His research focuses on engaged design with at-risk communities, the role of design in building local-scale resilience in the face of climate change, and applications of restoration and landscape ecology in the city.
- This presentation will focus on the nuts and bolts of the design process to incorporate native plants into your home landscape. It will review design goals, site analysis, design drawings. phasing strategies, and resources.
- Tips and techniques for starting native woody plants from seeds and cuttings. Participants will learn how to tell if a seed is mature and viable, storage practices, and proper planting methods to improve their chances of successfully growing native woody plants. Students will leave with a packet of eastern white pine seeds. Plants featured will include native pines, red and white oaks, hickorys, flowering dogwood and a variety of shrubs.
